The Cobb County Jail is primarily a pretrial detention facility. It first opened in 1989, but it has gone through several expansions. The jail encompasses approximately one million square feet and has a total capacity of around 3,000.
It is the largest holding facility under the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office. It holds adult offenders who have been arrested and awaiting trials. After trials, they can be either released or transported to another detention facility.

Inmate Visitation and Contact Policies
Inmates can be visited. However, visits have to be scheduled and registered at least 24 hours in advance. You are allowed to schedule your visit up to seven days before the visit takes place. But, before scheduling, each visitor should complete the registration process. That can be done online via GTL Visit Me or in person at the self-serve kiosk at the Visitation Center of the Cobb County Jail.
Each visitor has to show a valid government-issued photo ID to the Visitation Center staff. Minors have to be accompanied by adult visitors. Visits last for 30 minutes, but if you are more than 15 minutes late, the visit may be forfeited.
Although visitors are not subject to security screenings, it is expected of them to follow the jail’s rules. Visitors have to be dressed conservatively. Also, they can’t carry food, cell phones, drinks, and other prohibited items into the visitation area.
Detainees can’t receive phone calls. However, they can place phone calls at certain times if the recipients have established an account with Global Tel Link, Inc.
